LCA presented a unique challenge with the proposed expansion of its facility in East Lexington. Despite the availability of land on its 29 acre site, the project was considerably restricted due to wetlands. This limitation was overcome by crafting a solution which was based on a series of additions that met the school’s program and functional criteria. The additions were positioned on “buildable dry ground,” avoiding impact on the wetlands. The scheme features a new plaza for the school with separate school and auditorium entries flanked by the curved glass facade of the art and music centers. The library/media center was placed at the front of the complex as a symbol of entry to the campus.
