The Vedanta Society of Boston
Boston, MA

The Vedanta Society of Boston is the local congregation of an international Hindu order. They have been in Boston for more than a century and are headquartered in the oldest free-standing house in Boston's Back Bay.

This project is an addition to their facility and represents a new home for the center's public uses including a meditation hall, multi-purpose room, kitchen and guest quarters. The original structure will revert to a private residence for the Swami. The design is crafted to be respectful of the existing structure. To accomplish this, the masses are similar in bulk and the new building is tailored to enable the original house to be seen from the street. The addition features arched windows and a series of conical domes to evoke the feeling of Eastern worship.
